The City of Hobsons Bay
The City of Hobsons Bay, with a population of approximately 90,000, is a local government area in Melbourne, between 6 and 20 km south-west from the city centre comprising the suburbs of: Altona, Brooklyn (Shared with the City of Brimbank), Laverton (Shared with the City of Wyndham), Newport, Seabrook, Seaholme, South Kingsville, Spotswood and Williamstown.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme
The National Disability Insurance Scheme became available across the Hobsons Bay on 1 October, 2018 and contracted The Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL) to deliver Local Area Coordination (LAC) and Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) services.
The BLS are the main liaison between NDIS care recipients and the NDIS itself, they get in touch with everyone who successfully registers for NDIS consideration and will visit and gather information to allow the NDIS to develop a plan that meets an individual’s needs based on their identified goals. Once the plan is setup, every NDIS care recipient will have a contact to ensure service providers are setup.
Individuals whose plans are managed directly by the NDIS will be restricted to registered NDIS providers, listed on the NDIS website for Hobsons Bay. To access other providers in the area, BLS need to request Plan and/or Self-Management. Plan Management will not cost the participant and will allow the providers of their choice.
